Lake Hickory Living: 4 Rosetta Solutions Work Together for Cohesive Lakeshore Design
Project Name: Lake Hickory Home Manufacturer: Peerless Block & Brick Contractor: McLean Grading & Construction Owner: Residential Location: Lake Hickory, NC
“It's aged beautifully, which is a testament to the men and women up at Peerless Block that are building this and putting it together and getting it out to the job sites so that homeowners can sit here, just like this, and enjoy the beautiful scenery.”

The Challenge: Blank Slate to Flourishing Landscape

Starting a landscape plan with an empty yard is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming. How do you turn a sloped, blank space into something welcoming, functional, and beautiful enough to enjoy every day? This was the challenge Hickory Lake, North Carolina, homeowners the Roger's family, faced.
In the video above, Rosetta expert Hardscape Nate Fuelleman and Peerless Block & Brick’s Dee Harris lead you through this spectacular lakeside build, a project that combines the visual and structural strengths of four unique Rosetta solutions and shows you what's possible when Rosetta is selected for all aspects of a hardscape project–from steps to retaining walls.
The Solution: 4 Rosetta Systems, 1 Seamless Design

Peerless Block & Brick, the local Rosetta Hardscapes producer in West Virginia, supplied all the project’s block and step materials per the specifications in McLean Grading & Construction's landscape plan. Justin McLean, President of McLean Grading & Construction, spearheaded the design, and once his team received the go-ahead from the Roger's family, installation began.
Now complete and a truly splendid sight to behold, the Lake Hickory Project includes:
- Two Grand Ledge gravity retaining walls totalling 2200 sq ft (204.3 sq m)
- A 1400 sq ft (130 sq m) Grand Flagstone patio area nestled between the two walls
- 2000 sq ft (185 sq m) of Linear Flagstone paver pathways leading to the new patio and lakeshore
- Irregular Steps peppered throughout the lawn and project areas
Each Rosetta solution used on this project was crafted with the regional color “Saddle Mountain” by Peerless Block & Brick, a color selected to complement the home’s brick architecture, surrounding woods, and lakeside setting.
Digging into the specifics, the homeowner chose:
Grand Ledge – For its naturally snapped stone texture and authentic quarried look, -Grand Ledge handles the 9 ft (2.7 m) elevation change without the need for major excavation or geogrid. This choice keeps the project efficient and on budget.
Grand Flagstone – Picked for the patio, Grand Ledge offers irregular shapes and a natural stone-like texture. It creates a warm, welcoming space with a rustic, organic feel.
Linear Flagstone – Laid in an offset running bond pattern, Linear Flagstone defines the walkways and gently guides patio users to the new spaces.
Irregular Steps’ unique profiles break up the long slope and offer a comfortable, inviting way to transition to the lower patio and lakeshore.
Years after its completion, this project still stops people in their tracks. It’s more than just an outdoor living space—it’s where memories are made and moments are shared. The Rosetta elements, still as beautiful and solid as the day they were installed, stand as a powerful reminder of how lasting craftsmanship and thoughtful design can truly transform a home.
