Installing the Kodah Fire Pit Kit is seriously simple. Larger-format blocks that can still be moved by hand and a straightforward pattern keep installations moving quickly. Additionally, if you have Rosetta Hardscape’s expert Hardscape Nate as your guide, your install is sure to go smoothly.
In this video, Hardscape Nate shows you how to install a wood-burning Kodah Fire Pit Kit in just eight steps. If you desire a gas fire insert (sold separately) for flick-of-the-switch flame, please consult the Kodah Fire Pit Kit Gas Insert Info Sheet for additional steps.
After you have prepared a proper base, install the Kodah Fire Pit Kit in just 8 Steps:
Place the Steel Insert as a Template Position and square the first two blocks.
Set the First Block Leave a small gap at the steel insert for airflow. Hardscape Nate uses a “Grabbo” suction device to lift and position blocks easily.
Set the Second Block Establish depth and square the layout, then complete the first course, aligning tapered edges.
Remove the Steel Insert Sweep off the first course to prepare for the second course. Do not apply adhesive at this point.
Level the First Course Ensure it sits on the base material (not bedding sand).
Install the Second Course Stagger joints (“breaking the bond line”) and align finished edges/tapers.
Test-fit the Insert Again Make any adjustments with a rubber mallet.
Apply Adhesive to the Second Course Use Type 3.1 SuperWET for optimal bonding in wet or dry conditions.
All that’s left is to add wood and enjoy! In record time, you can achieve the charming natural stone look of the Kodah Fire Pit for your outdoor space and focus on more important things, like how inviting your glass of wine will look with the reflection of a flame in it. Hardscape Nate
It's not his legal name, but "hardscape" is this guy’s way of life. Hardscape Nate Fuelleman has spent 20+ years helping families get the most out of their backyards and landscape contractors level up their outdoor living installation businesses. He geeks out over garden walls, pavers, steps, and fire features. And why wouldn’t he? A thoughtfully designed and expertly crafted outdoor space can forge friendships, make memories, and heal the soul. Think he’s overselling it? Spend a summer evening on the patio enjoying an oaky Chardonnay or a gooey s'more while listening to the crackle of a flickering fire. You can thank him later.
