Installer Insights: Terraced Transformation with Outcropping in Calgary, Alberta
Fiddler’s Green Landscaping used Rosetta Hardscapes’ Outcropping retaining wall system to transform a Calgary, Alberta, home’s entrance and backyard from boring and bland to fun and functional. Outcropping, produced locally by longtime Rosetta manufacturer Barkman Concrete, helped Fiddler’s Green to craft an inviting streetside entrance and a terraced backyard with elegant walls and lush planting beds. Explore how designers and homeowners use Rosetta’s large-format Outcropping to bring organization and charm to residential landscapes, even on the most challenging grades.
Turning Tough Slopes into Beautiful Spaces
Brad Parker and the team at Fiddler’s Green Landscaping were focused on turning problem slopes in both the front and back of the home into functional spaces.
Tackling the streetside entrance first allowed the Fiddler’s Green team to get comfortable with Outcropping. “It was the first time we ever used it, so our crew was able to kind of piece it all together and figure stuff out,” explains Brad. The tiered front yard now boasts eye-catching dimension and a beautiful assortment of plantings that signal serious curb appeal.

Contractors Add Structure and Style with Outcropping
Rosetta’s Outcropping walls combine the timeless beauty of natural stone with efficient installation and the reliability of precast engineering. But Outcropping really stands out when it comes to managing difficult changes in terrain.
Outcropping delivers any number of benefits to residential projects, including:
- Natural stone realism without the challenges and cost of hand-laid rock
- Large block sizes for faster machine-set builds and fewer joints
- Wet cast concrete composition stands up to harsh freeze-thaw cycles and water
- Structural capability and strength for crafting tall or multi-tiered walls
From Front Entry to Backyard Retreat
With the home’s front transformed, attention turned to the backyard, where even greater grade challenges awaited. “The way it was before, there was multiple different slopes. It was super unusable,” Brad comments. “So now, they've got some flat levels. There'll be some planting beds, some lawn areas.”
Once again, the Fiddler’s Green team put Outcopping to work, creating multiple terraces and supporting an outbuilding, all connected with a winding path and stairs. The contractor even carved out enough space to craft a deck off the home.
“The customer is extremely happy. They say it surpassed their expectations.” -Brad Parker, Fiddler’s Green Landscaping
Contractors Outdo the Competition with Outcropping
Outcropping can give contractors a leg up when dealing with grade changes. Fiddler’s Green Landscaping used Outcropping’s scale to transform two unusable areas into beautiful terraced spaces filled with striking softscapes and deeply textured walls. The home now features a gorgeous entry, boosted curb appeal, and a reclaimed backyard ready for plantings and play.
