Project Details
Project Name: North Carolina Resort Fire Pits Manufacturer: Peerless Block & Brick Contractor: McManus Farms & Landscaping Owner: Beech Mountain Resort Location: Banner Elk, NC Year Built: 2024

THE CHALLENGE:
Creating Multi-Season Mountain Gathering Spaces
Nestled in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, Beech Mountain Resort is a year-round destination with slopes for skiing and tubing in winter and mountain biking, disc golf, and lift rides in the summertime. But the resort needed an outdoor space that served everyone, including those not hitting the slopes or pedaling the trails. Beech Mountain Resort wanted to create a centrally located, family-friendly gathering area offering relaxation, natural beauty, and year-round appeal. To realize the resort’s vision, the project included:
- Establishing multiple seating tiers to maximize conversation spaces, create a comfortable seating area, and navigate grade changes from the lodge level
- Transforming a former ice-skating rink into a functional and beautiful hardscape patio
- Creating multiple cozy fire pit pods to give guests their own space
- Blending a rustic, mountain lodge aesthetic into each patio pod to match the resort’s landscape
- Offering guests an alternative activity during the busy peak ski season
- Utilizing low-maintenance, easy-to-install products that look like natural stone and stand up to freeze-thaw cycles.
THE SOLUTION:
Bringing Rustic Charm to Life with Rosetta
Designer/installer McManus Farms & Landscaping turned to local Rosetta Hardscapes producer Peerless Block & Brick (St. Albans, WV) for a solution to meet the project’s varied challenges. Belvedere Wall, Belvedere Fire Pit Kit, Belvedere Coping, and Grand Flagstone patio slabs were selected to deliver both the style and strength Beech Mountain Resort needed to realize its vision.
Belvedere and Grand Flagstone offer richly textured surfaces and stunning natural stone looks, which helped reinforce the resort’s rustic mountainside aesthetic, creating a quintessential ski resort landscaping package. At the same time, its stout, wet cast concrete modular system ensured fast and confident installation without cutting or heavy equipment.
Key Rosetta products used:
- Belvedere Wall to both maximize space with terracing and create curved seat walls and cozy fire pit enclosures
- Grand Flagstone Pavers to deliver texture and warmth underfoot in patio, walkway, and fire pit areas while providing an all-season slip-resistant patio surface
- Belvedere Fire Pit Kits with convenient natural gas kits to serve as a focal outdoor fire feature of each intimate relaxation pod
- Belvedere Coping for clean transitions between paths and landscape beds
McManus Farms & Landscaping found everything they needed to execute the resort’s mountain hardscape vision with Rosetta Hardscapes. The solutions allow them to:
- Deliver the natural mountain aesthetic without the cost and complexity of real stone.
- Create four inviting fire pit coves, offering warm spaces for small group gatherings.
- Minimize installation time by avoiding unnecessary cuts and delays thanks to Rosetta’s contractor-friendly modular design.
- Easily integrate softscapes around the products to enhance the overall space and create more privacy
- Complete the entire build using materials from a single supplier, saving time, simplifying logistics, and delivering high-quality results.
Whether it's grandparents watching their grandchildren ski and tube or bicyclists enjoying a craft beer after a challenging ride, Beach Mountain Resort’s patio offers a memorable experience all its own. The Belvedere Wall and accompanying Fire Pit Kit and Grand Flagstone slabs delivered the charm and performance Beech Mountain Resort needed to expand its amenities and welcome guests year-round.
“Much easier to assemble. No cutting. We could put it together quicker, with a lot less labor. Rosetta had everything we needed.”
